Truffle hunt and Barolo

Description

4-hour tour; truffle hunting; Barolo cellar tour and wine tasting

Truffles and Barolo, the two most representative and exclusive products of Piedmont, combined together in a 4-hour tour. This is the opportunity to meet a local, the truffle hunter and be part, for an hour or so, of the mysterious and secret hunt which has not changed in centuries.

Walk in the heart of the Langhe and Roero hills, part of the 50th UNESCO site of Italy,  to experience what makes so special the soil of this corner of Italy.

We offer two versions of the same tour, with or without a tour guide.

If you decide to book this experience without tour guide, you will be provided, upon reception of payment, with address and directions to get to the truffle hunting location and, later, to the winery. Each activity is booked at a specific time, therefore it is essential that you are on time.

On the other hand, the advantage of having a tour guide available the entire four hours is to get a full presentation of the Piedmont region, including commentary along the way getting from one activity to the other; the added value of hiring a tour guide lies in bringing up to life elements otherwise hard to be noticed and that one could dismiss as insignificant.

The tour

The truffle hunting location can be nearby Alba, in Piedmont or within a 30-minutes drive. Meet the truffle hunter and the dog and walk in the woods. Hunting for white or black truffles involves walking on paths which can be slippery, muddy and occasionally steep: therefore, it is highly recommended to wear trekking boots or sporty shoes. Truffle hunting lasts approximately 1-1.5 hours and it is held during the season of the white truffle of Alba (end of September to January) and also in summer to hunt the black truffle called “scorzone”.

Afterwards, drive to the area of production of Barolo wine. We prefer to book off-the-beaten track wineries, small to medium size, family-run where generations of hard-work and traditions are valued. Begin with a guided tour of the cellar to understand how Nebbiolo grapes are aged in oak in order to be called Barolo; then, sit at the table to enjoy a wine tasting of four premium wines including at least one Barolo.

See below all the upgrades available to tailor this tour as you like, including adding a driver or an exclusive tasting of four types of Barolo.
