WINE TASTINGS IN PIEDMONT WITH AN EXPERT

Barolo & Barbaresco Tour with a Winemaker is an 8-hour day trip from Alba to the Langhe wine region, in the heart of Piedmont.

Set off with a scenic drive to the vineyard-clad hills of the Barolo and Barbaresco wine valleys, located, respectively, on the western and eastern side of the town of Alba, on the right bank of the Tanaro River.

A local, passionate, and knowledgeable winemaker unravels the wine-making process, the complexity of the soil, and the diversity of each wine district.

Three different wine tastings are set in the aging premises of top-rated, small to medium-sized wine producers of Piedmont, including the wine cellar owned by the winemaker’s family.

The tour allows one to get familiar with local grape varietals such as Barbera, Dolcetto, and Arneis, however, primarily it focuses on how Nebbiolo grapes can evolve and change depending on the terroir they are grown.

If you’re a wine enthusiast looking for an immersive and informative experience, our Barolo & Barbaresco Wine Tour with a Winemaker will not disappoint.

This tour exceeded our expectations! We had a wonderful time. Our guide Giovanni is very knowledgeable about the wine business since he is a winemaker himself. He’s also very personable and fun to be with. (…) This tour was a wonderful experience that we will remember for many years to come. We wholeheartedly recommend it!

Next, the winemaker takes you to the Barolo wine region to visit a renowned winery with award-winning wines. Step inside the aging room and partake in a generous wine tasting including the comparison of different types and vintages of Barolo wine, aged in oak.

This wine tour in Piedmont continues with the insight from our local winemaker as you stroll around one of the villages of the Langhe Hills.

For lunch (not included in the tour cost), you can follow the guidance of the winemaker and grab a quick bite in one of the traditional trattoria (around 30€ for a couple of courses) or wander around at your own pace.

Wine Tour Barolo and Barbaresco

The Barolo and Barbaresco Wine Valleys

The Barolo & Barbaresco Wine Tour with a Winemaker ends in the wine district of  Barbaresco on the easter side of Alba.

The Barbaresco wine valley spreads across the towns of Treiso, Neive, and Barbaresco, as well as a small part of Alba, known as San Rocco Seno d’Elvio.

In this area, the average elevation of the hills is lower than in the Barolo wine region, as well as the minerals lying in the soil and the microclimate that benefits from the proximity to the Tanaro River. Hills are shaped in the form of natural amphitheaters, or open Us, letting the breeze of the river come in and affect the ripening of the grapes.

It’s time for the third wine tasting of the day, centered around Barbaresco wine produced on prestigious hillsides and appreciating a different shade that Nebbiolo grapes can give.

Lastly, a short transfer back to Alba ends a fantastic day spent with the winemaker.

MEETING PLACE

Meet in Piazzale Cleto Giovannoni, at the corner with Via Vivaro (by the newsstand)

The pickup from your hotel can be arranged within a range of 10 km from Alba. Please ask at the time of booking.
